Brits really have a special way with words and in particular a real flair for slang. I don’t know a whole lot of British slang, but it’s always enjoyable and I’m pleased to learn new words and phrases like the one above [which means "over excited to get something". For example, in the supermarket, Dylan might bite my arm off for a mylar balloon.].
Digress…Digress…The note I meant to make was that I found an interesting music blog today called Song, by Toad. I found it searching for an original artist listing for Cat Power’s new cover album, Jukebox. Happened to click on the link and found Mr. Toad’s blog where he was slamming Cat Power to the mat without mercy. Gave me pause, made me think, made me laugh.
Having only listened to it once, the jury’s still out on Jukebox. Didn’t make much of an initial impression, but I did like her cover of Nick Cave’s wonderful, jubilant “Breathless” [Can you call a song by Nick Cave jubilant??]. And I’m a fan. After “Nude as the News” and the Moonpix album, which captured and held me prisoner in a rapturous sadness for several months years back, I will probably always be a fan. Even the first time I saw her perform at the Crocodile could not destroy the beauty of these recorded works–but God, it came close. The second time I saw her, it was like she had personality surgery. Backed up and buoyed by a large band of seasoned Memphis session musicians, she was happy and her performance reflected this and I as an audience member did not stand there merely feeling the pain, fear, and overwhelming anxiety of the performer…
But again I digress. I wanted to also note, that I liked Mr. Toad’s Manifesto, and it too, made me chuckle. Now where was that original artist track listing again??
