Before the Dawn…

Before this whole raggety campaign comes to an end tomorrow (thankfully at that, because it’s pretty addictive following this crazy thing, a sort of Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride for politically interested and concerned citizens), I wanted to catalog a few more links.

In the context of the racist comments hollered at McCain/Palin rallies, Frank Rick, an op-ed columnist for the New York Times, wrote this very insightful piece on racism and the campaign trail.

And an article about the real Mavericks.

And the New York Times’ endorsement for Barack Obama.

Caribou Barbie and the Fillet Knife*

Avi, you really had me chuckling with this one!

The fact that Barack Obama is a Harvard educated lawyer and former professor of ConLaw could not be more relevant to this election. The notion that anyone who has managed to acquire an education and a degree of expertise is an elite who cannot be trusted to govern all us average folk is not only laughable, it’s fucking well CRY-ABLE.

We’ve seen what having an average Joe (faux average, but no brighter than McMumblefuck OR Palin) has wrought.

When I need my car fixed, I don’t roll up my sleeves. I don’t know shit about cars. I take it to a mechanic I trust.

When I need my house rewired I call an electrician. Plumber, engineer, physicist, biologist, economist…

Why is Sarah Palin determined to IGNORE these people? Why is she convinced she knows better and need only never blink in order to prove it?

If I ever need a fucking organ transplant…, I don’t want Miss Congeniality grabbing the fish filleting blade from the rack and rolling up her stupid, goddamned sleeves…ready to get to work without blinking or thinking. I want the best cock replacement surgeon alive.

*“Caribou Barbie” is Avi‘s moniker for the GOPVEEP nominee/absentee mother/fundamentalist wacko/author of the new bestseller, In the Spotlight: How to Interview on National Television.

Coloring the income gap

So you have a blue marker and a red marker…if you think you can see where the lines are drawn, go ahead and color away.

Republicans seem so often to prioritize economics and taxation over other issues. I would never argue that money and income aren’t big issues, but there are a lot of important issues, all important. And some, like Civil Liberties and social justice issues really sing to me.

At any rate, I read THIS ARTICLE in the New York Times a few weeks ago, and wanted to recommend it very highly to anyone reading this blog and especially those for whom the economy is issue number one. When you say that Democrats are going to take your money away and tax the hell out of you and bog everything down with red tape and big government, better READ THIS ARTICLE for it may shed some new light on stubborn opinions holding fast in murky depths.

Just checked this out thanks to Load. I see it raised a lot of commentary, a lot of profanity, but I enjoyed it. Read a blog by an old high school classmate of mine recently who went to see him speak hoping for magic and came away nonplussed. I haven’t gone to see him personally [Jill went down to the Key Arena to see him 2/8/08, but couldn't get in and had to watch him on the big screen in the Center House.], but I find this inspiring and the words moving.
